A fur-ocius hunt for Michigan’s most wanted ends with Michigan Gas Utilities (MGU) getting its top dog. Bandit, a 1-year-old Llewellin setter from Benton Harbor, has been named as MGU’s next safe digging “ambassadog.”

A record number of MGU customers and dog lovers alike cast more than 13,000 votes for the 10 finalists in this year’s safe digging contest. Bandit stole the hearts of voters throughout the contest, receiving more than 70% of the pup-ular vote.

As MGU’s new face of safe digging, Bandit will spend the next year sharing an important message across Michigan: Doggone it! Always call 811 at least three days before you dig.

Bandit’s background behind the mask

Bandit’s journey to the title of ambassadog spans the Midwest, as he was born in northeast Kansas. His owners soon brought him home to Benton Harbor, naming him Bandit because of the mask-like black fur that surrounds his eyes.

Bandit often leaves clues on where he’s been — his owners say he loves to dig, especially at the beach on the shores of Lake Michigan. When’s he not digging, Bandit can be found on the run playing fetch, chasing birds or running around with his dog friends.

Be on the lookout for Bandit as MGU’s safe digging ambassadog on the company’s social media channels all year long.
