Michigan Gas Utilities (MGU) is urging customers who are behind on natural gas bills to contact the company right away and avoid disconnection. Winter Protection Plan agreements currently in place will end March 31.
Customers who contact MGU and establish and maintain a payment plan are not at risk for disconnection. MGU works with its customers throughout the year to avoid disconnection by providing payment plans and connecting them with energy assistance options.

Customers who receive a disconnection notice must contact MGU to set up a payment arrangement so they can stay connected. MGU representatives are available 24 hours a day to assist customers.
Energy assistance options
Significant federal assistance is available to help customers who have fallen behind on energy bills. The State of Michigan received $166 million for heating assistance this winter.
Customers having difficulty with energy bills may be eligible to receive energy assistance or credits through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Michigan Department of Treasury, and Michigan Energy Assistance Program.
